Whether for way-finding or simple greetings and messages, vintage signs add that much needed personalized finishing touch to any event.

All to often under utilized and overlooked, wedding signs truly warm and welcome your guests.

Visit antique and thrift stores or garage sales and online auctions to find vintage picture frames and mirror frames that can be freshened up with a coat of paint. Get creative with how and where you use them:

At the entrance to your ceremony and reception venues

To mark designated areas such as Candy or Dessert Buffets

Use large full length frames to create chalk boards that your guests can write fun messages on

Place smaller frames with special messages on washroom counters next to hand towels and hand lotions or anywhere you want to surprise your guests with a special little note.

Get creative and have fun coming up with ways to use vintage frames. Remember, you can always use the frames in your home or office after your wedding.

Check out this fabulous dual use chalkboard mirror being offer by Etsy artisan Revived Vintage.

Ok, I’ll confess, I’m a bit of a sign snob. There is nothing that makes me cringe more than a makeshift wedding direction sign made from an old cardboard box and handwritten in Jiffy Marker. Oh, and let’s not forget the balloons that are always attached to them.

Now I understand directional signage is not high on the list of things to do for the wedding but it should not be forgotten. You want every detail of your special day to be exquisite and not look like an afterthought.

So let’s all just recycle those cardboard boxes and keep the Jiffy Markers in the pen holders. Instead, opt for a beautiful wood sign that can be staked into the ground such as this one from The Wooden Owl.

These birch signs are hand painted and can be customized to suit your wedding colors. The signs come with a pre-drilled three foot black stake.

These signs would be great to use after the wedding as a welcoming house plaque and would look fantastic in a garden or in the front yard. You can achieve this by removing the lower directional sign(s) and having the larger upper sign read: (The Groom’s Name) & (The Bride’s Name) Established (Wedding Date).

Example:

Mark & Laurie

Established August 15, 2009

Pricing:

2 Signs $15.00 USD
3 Signs $18.00 USD
4 Signs $21.00 USD

www.thewoodenowl.com

Oh, almost forgot! On your wedding day, avoid the temptation to attach balloons to your sign. If you want to drawing attention to the sign, ask the folks over at The Wooden Owl to pre-drill an extra set of holes in the stake, preferably at the top, that way you can affix a lovely tin vase filled with colorful flowers and greenery.
When using the sign at home you can change out the floral arrangements with the season.
